RESOLUTION NO. 180031

 

Honoring “The 2018 Kansas City Restaurant Week”, January 12th to January 21st.

 

WHEREAS, since 2009, Kansas City Restaurant Week has been endorsed by the partnership of the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association and Visit KC; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to taste several culinary options as well as supporting more than 190 local restaurants in the Kansas City metropolitan area; and

 

WHEREAS, through establishing and founding Kansas City Restaurant Week the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association and Visit KC have raised more than 1.75 million dollars for local charities and have provided over $200,000.00 in scholarships for culinary students in Missouri and Kansas since 2006 and donated over $40,000.00 in support of the now internationally recognized Hospitality & Culinary Academy at Johnson County Community College; and

 

WHEREAS, reaffirming a commitment to social and civic responsibility, Kansas City Restaurant Week organizers have chosen three charitable partners as beneficiaries of 2018 Kansas City Restaurant Week. The donations raised during the 2018 event will benefit Kansas City Community Gardens. The Kansas City Regional Destination Development Foundation and the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association Education Foundation will again receive a portion of the donations, as well; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City Restaurant Week is designed to support our local restaurant industry but most importantly to improve awareness and provide financial assistance to local charities dedicated to growing a healthy community; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor and congratulate the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association and Visit KC for their commitment to our community; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Kevin Timmons, Owner of Nick & Jakes and incoming President of the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association, and Michael Garozzo, owner of Garozzo’s Italian Restaurants the outgoing President of the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association, and Jessica Blubaugh, Interim Vice President of Partnerships & Events for Visit KC, in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for many years of dedicated service and of their best wishes for all the years to come.
