RESOLUTION NO. 001067
Declaring August 3, 2000,
as Recycling for the Future Day.
WHEREAS, Choose
Environmental Excellence, Bridging The Gap, KCTV5 and Kansas City sponsored
Recycling For The Future, kids video and written essay contests, in
conjunction with Earth Day 2000; and
WHEREAS, over
250 regional youngsters, ages 14 and under, participated in KCTV5s Speakers
Corner or prepared written essays on the subject Why recycling is important to
future generations; and
WHEREAS, the
winning essays appeared on KCTV5 or will be printed in the Kansas City Star;
and
WHEREAS, the
overall winner of the Kids Video essay contest is Abigail Clemmons and the
runner-ups are Mary Cate Rainer, Benjamin Aaron Smith, Alexandria Fortenberry,
Aerial Joslin, Betsy Streets, Briana Evans, Deon Walton, Zach Garner, Jeremy
Mullins and Megan Lassister; and
WHEREAS, the
overall winner of the Kids Written Essay contest is Erin Flannery and the
runner-ups are Sara Moxley, Lauren Nowiszewski, Andrea Wyatt, David Adeola,
Jennifer Sievers, Jennie Guthrie, Aaron R. Childress, Keyanna Dawson, Jaime
Fionicci, Emily Sellers, and Aslei Kahla Walker; and
WHEREAS, the
Mayor and Council of Kansas City wish to recognize and express support and
appreciation on behalf of all area residents for the thoughtful, insightful,
challenging and sometimes humorous essays created by our children; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council do hereby declare August 3, 2000, as Recycling for the Future Day;
and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to all of the winners,
KCTV5 and Bridging The Gap in recognition of the important contributions to
educating one another and adults, inspiring and encouraging us to conserve
natural resources, reduce pollution and become better environmental citizens.
