| Accepting and approving a one year $152,571.15 contract amendment with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services that provides funding for the Maternal and Child Health program; and increasing revenue and appropriations in the amount of 5,723.00 in the Governmental Grants Fund.
NEIGHBORHOODS & HEALTHY COMMUNITIES COMMITTEE recommends "DO PASS" Clyde Bolton, Quiana Jackson and Kim Wilson, Health Department, were present to testify on the ordinance, explaining that the ordinance was for a renewal of funding from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Ms. Jackson explained that the program served 1000 kids with the Hickman Mills School District. They stated that the Safety Street program served 4400 last year and 6000 students in the area wide from South Kansas City and the Northland this year. Ms. Jackson added that she is involved with younger children Pre-K to 6 grade and Ms. Wilson works more directly with teenagers. Councilwoman Curls asked if the program was during the school year or year round. Mr. Bolton stated that the program runs year round. There is no charge for the serves. Councilman Wagner asked about the portions of the program that dealt with bullying. He asked if there was an increase in the demand for bully prevention program. Ms. Jackson and Ms. Wilson both stated they had seen an increase in request for the training adding that the training is most effective for younger children.
