| | | Councilwoman Hermann announced that ordinance numbers 050847 and 050879 would be held for one week. She commented about the reason for the hold and the status of ordinances and some of the larger issues. She pointed out that there are some issues in the process of citizen review in allowing neighborhoods to have the adequate impact. Councilwoman Hermann stated that Mr. Les Washington and Ms. Judy Hadley brought it to her attention also. Councilmen Glover and Rowland are working on amending the language of the ordinances. Mr. Washington reported that his staff were looking at the review processes and identifying the issues with those processes. They are looking at setting up a formalized structure where ordinances are routinely vented in a better manner. His staff is currently working on it and will report back to the committee in September. Councilwoman Hermann encouraged the neighborhood people to contact Mr. Washington's office with any suggestions about the process. An adhoc committee which was set up to review the ordinances and their sole task was to look at that on a one time basis. He stated that this has heightened the need to have something that is more formal in structure and will meet on a regular basis. His staff is looking at the membership of that committee and will make recommendations on what the appointments should be. Councilwoman Nace stated that she hoped it would include representatives from all over the city because these issues have different impacts in different areas and there should be someone representing who is knowledgeable about the needs and concerns of the various areas in the city. Mr. Washington stated the intent is to make sure there is a balance of industry and neighborhood representation. Councilwoman Hermann also voiced concerns about enforcement of the ordinances and the shortage of enforcement staff.
Mr. O'Neal voiced his opposition of the adhoc committee and advisory review committee. He suggested that there be separate neighborhood and industry committees that talk among themselves and make recommendations. |
