Accepting and approving a one-year $269,687.00 contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for a comprehensive sexually transmitted disease prevention program.


NEIGHBORHOODS AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE recommends "ADVANCE AND DO PASS, DEBATE"
Tiffany Wilikinson and Leesha Dennis, Health Department, gave a brief overview. This contract provides for a comprehensive STD Program to address targeted testing and treatment efforts as well as to conduct primary prevention. Funds also provide for partner services which involves interviewing cases for others that may have been exposed and could benefit from testing and treatment if necessary. The goal of these programs is to promote and protect all citizens of Kansas City on a continuing, ongoing and sustainable basis.

Accepting and approving a one-year $199,752.00 grant from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services that provides funding for the Maternal Child Health Services program.

Kim Wilson, Health Department, testified that this ordinance is to accept a 12 month contract from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services,and for the Maternal and Child Health block grant. The goal is to prevent and reduce intentional injuries among infants, children, adolescents, and women.

Estimating revenue and appropriating $8,157.00 into the Governmental Grants Fund; accepting and approving an $8,157.00 grant from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to establish a surveillance site to identify antibiotic resistant strains of gonorrhea circulating within the Kansas City area; and designating requisitioning authority.

Tiffany Wilkinson, Health Department, testified this ordinance is to accept a new annual contract with Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The contract will establish an Enhanced Gonococcal Isolate Surveillance Project site within the State of Missouri that will collect, process, ship and maintain gonorrhea specimens according to the policies and procedures established by the Centers for Disease Control.

Amending Chapter 10, Alcoholic Beverages, by repealing Section 10-211 and enacting in lieu thereof a new section of like number and subject matter which will allow an applicant to bypass the density requirement when applying for a retail sales-by-drink license in a specified area of the River Market.

Councilwoman Jolie Justus and Jim Ready, Regulated Industries, spoke briefly of the typo in the ordinance that resulted in a committee substitute on the removal of the sales by drink density within the River Market area without removing the sales by drink consent.
