RESOLUTION NO. 041212
Expressing the City Councils appreciation to
the Kansas City Southern Railway, the Canadian Pacific Railway, and the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad for their help in providing mechanical services and
transportation to bring the new rail attraction to Union Station.
WHEREAS, Union Station was
restored to its original grandeur in 1999 due to the generosity of citizens
throughout metropolitan Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, Union Station was a
transportation hub in its earlier glory years and has the opportunity to be a
shining example of metropolitan cooperation for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, a complete 1950s
streamliner was purchased from a private collector in Milwaukee, and will go on
display as part of a permanent exhibit at Union Station in late 2005, and
WHEREAS, the Kansas City
Southern Railway donated its mechanical services in order to prepare the cars
to be moved, and
WHEREAS, transportation from Milwaukee to Kansas City was provided by the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad, and
WHEREAS, the new attraction will
include model railroads and a series of rotating exhibits exploring the human
and social side of railroading in Kansas Citys history, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF
KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council
applaud and thank the Kansas City Southern Railway, the Canadian Pacific
Railway, and the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad for their help in
bringing the new, exciting rail attraction to Union Station, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this
Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and
that a copy hereof be presented to Warren Erdman with the appreciation of the
Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for their help in improving and
adding to the attractions of Union Station.
