RESOLUTION NO. 081179
Recognizing the 15th
Anniversary of the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation and declaring
November 20, 2008, as a day to honor the Hispanic Economic Development
Corporation throughout the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, on November 17, 2008, the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) will recognize 15
years of service to the Hispanic community at a reception in conjunction with
Global Entrepreneurship Week; and
WHEREAS, HEDC is
a community development corporation dedicated to improving the lives of
Hispanics within the Kansas City area through economic development initiatives;
and
WHEREAS,
HEDC has a long list of projects and accomplishments such as developing the DST
Westside Industrial Park located at 26th Street and Southwest Boulevard and has
also provided technical assistance or assisted in the establishment of more than
800 businesses since 1993; and
WHEREAS,
HEDC has also been the recipient of numerous awards such as the 2002 Economic
Development Corporations Cornerstone Award, the 2004 Kansas City
Industrial Council Award and the 2006 Golden Doorknob Award; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT
RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the
Mayor and Council hereby recognize the 15th Anniversary of the Hispanic
Economic Development Corporation and declare November 20, 2008, as a day to
honor the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation throughout the City of
Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council
in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Hispanic
Economic Development Corporation on behalf of the Mayor, Council and citizens
of Kansas City with a big thank you for HEDFCs tireless efforts to improve the
communities and lives of those they exist to serve.
