RESOLUTION NO. 100935

Expressing appreciation and thanks to members of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Chain Saw Team and affiliated organizations.

WHEREAS, the havoc recently visited upon parts of Kansas City’s Northland by a violent wind and rain storm call to mind the remarkable and manifold works of mercy of volunteers from the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Chain Saw Team and their affiliated network of selfless relief workers; and

WHEREAS, these exemplary organizations include the Clay-Platte Baptist Association, Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief, and the Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief Response Team, all operating under the ancient mandate of “Love Thy Neighbor,” providing comprehensive and compassionate assistance to victims of natural disaster; and

WHEREAS, the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Chain Saw Team, under the inspired leadership of Bob West and Bill Johnson, has provided extraordinary voluntary, no-strings-attached assistance to fellow men and women of all creeds, backgrounds, and economic circumstance; and

WHEREAS, the Chain Saw Team, beginning with the Katrina disaster in the New Orleans area with four men and a pickup, has spread their caring hands to victims of natural disaster in Buffalo, New York; Anirik, Texas; and Gladstone, Cape Girardeau, Springfield, and Kansas City in Missouri; and

WHEREAS, the material measure of the Chain Saw Team’s success would amount to a two square-mile area stacked six feet high with tree debris, while the human impact of their labors remains immeasurable except in the hearts of those touched by the selfless hands of the team, now 180 men and women strong; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby express appreciation and thanks to members of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Chain Saw Team and affiliated organizations; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Bill Johnson and Bob West with the profound appreciation and gratitude of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, their Chain Saw team and affiliated organizations for their compassionate outreach to fellow human beings in times of extraordinary need.
