RESOLUTION NO. 190017

 

Honoring Michael G. Powell on the occasion of his retirement for his forty-three years of dedicated service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

 

WHEREAS, Michael began his career with the City in 1975 with Parks and Recreation, where he served as an Equipment Operator until 1979 and since then took on a variety of leadership positions in several different departments; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael then served with the Convention Center as the Labor Leader and General Supervisor from 1979 until 2000; and

 

WHEREAS, following his work in the Convention Center, Michael served for the next seven years as the Area Superintendent for Public Works in the Architectural Division from 2000-2007; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael spent the last eleven years of his career with the City as the Maintenance Supervisor for the General Services Department; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael became a trusted, reliable resource and partner from the moment he began working with General Services Department where he exuded professionalism with his team and customers and was always at work ready to provide his expertise on any given day; and

 

WHEREAS, the employees who reported to Michael were quoted saying, “Michael was a great supervisor, one of the BEST”; and

 

WHEREAS, as a local DJ, Michael enjoys music, especially 60’s & 70’s music and will have more time now to continue to DJ all around town and out-of-town by request; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Mr. Powell on the occasion of his retirement from public service, the heartiest best wishes for his future, together with appreciation for 43 years of dedicated and devoted service to the citizens of this great City of Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Michael G. Powell in token of the Mayor and Council’s respect and high regard and their best wishes for the long and happy retirement which he so richly deserves.
