Authorizing the Mayor to
submit a grant application under the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 to the State
of Missouri in the amount of $27,019.20 with a match of funds and volunteer
time from the City of $7,055.10 for a part-time child advocate position in the
Domestic Violence Victim Assistance Program for a total project cost of
$34,074.30.
WHEREAS, the
Congress of the United States passed the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 (VOCA) to
assist states in providing high quality services that directly impact the
health and well-being of victims of crime; and
WHEREAS, the
United States Department of Justice Office of Victims of Crime administers
these funds at the federal level and the Missouri Department of Public Safety
administers the VOCA funds at the state level; and
WHEREAS, Kansas
City, Missouri, is an eligible applicant under VOCAs rules and regulations;
and
WHEREAS, there is
a sufficient number of citizens of Kansas City, Missouri, who are victims of
domestic violence who could benefit under the provisions of the Victims of
Crime Act of 1984; and
WHEREAS, it is in
the best interests of Kansas City, Missouri, and its citizens to apply for a
grant from the State of Missouri, Department of Public Safety to secure
assistance for its less fortunate citizens who have suffered physical or mental
injury through acts which are in violation of criminal laws; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor is
authorized to submit a grant application to the State of Missouri, Department
of Public Safety, under the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 in the amount of
$27,019.20 with a combined match from the City of $7,055.10 in funds and
volunteer time to provide for a part-time child advocate position in the
Domestic Violence Victim Assistance Program for a total project cost of
$34,074.30.
