RESOLUTION NO. 160576

Recognizing Camp Quality and all its volunteers in the greater Kansas City area for serving children and families affected by childhood cancer.

WHEREAS, the first Camp Quality was established by Vera Entwistle in 1983 in Sydney, Australia. Today Camp Quality has fifteen camps in twelve states and in numerous countries including New Zealand and India; and

WHEREAS, Camp Quality is 100% free thanks to an abundance of charitable partners and this allows Camp Quality to serve more families by eliminating a financial burden; and

WHEREAS, Camp Quality hosts a week long summer camp experience for children that have cancer along with their siblings. Although this is their main event each year, Camp Quality also has many other events open to new families to partake in such as Teen Weekend, Holiday Party, and Family Weekend; and

WHEREAS, Camp Quality promotes hope and inspiration while helping children foster life skills to develop their full potential; and

WHEREAS, Camp Quality provides families affected by childhood cancer with the opportunity to find joy and hope through shared experiences and an ongoing support system; and

WHEREAS, Camp Quality’s program focuses on care for the emotional needs of children and their families; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Camp Quality for their relentless support of children and families affected by childhood cancer; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Crystal Davison and Bill Maas, Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors, in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for many years of dedicated service and their best wishes for all the years to come.
