RESOLUTION NO. 150361

 

Declaring the week of May 17-25, 2015, as National Public Works Week in Kansas City, Missouri.

 

WHEREAS, public works infrastructure, facilities and services are of vital importance to sustainable communities and to the health, safety and well-being of a successful municipality; and

 

WHEREAS, such facilities and services are dependent on the effort of public works professionals, engineers, managers and employees who plan, design, build, maintain and deliver the public works assets and services which are essential to serve our citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City’s 400 Public Works employees monitor, maintain and repair more than 6,500 lane miles of streets, 621 traffic signals and 95,000 streetlights and collect 120,000 tons of solid waste every day; and

 

WHEREAS, Public Works projects, whether a simple curb repair, a bicycle trail, a bridge replacement or the construction of a streetcar line, all represent the American Public Works Department’s National Public Works Week theme of “Community Begins Here,” and

 

WHEREAS, the year 2015 marks the 55th Annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare the week May 17-23, 2015, as National Public Works Week to pay tribute to our Public Works and infrastructure employees and to recognize the substantial contributions they have made to our health, safety and quality of life; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution then be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Public Works Director Sherri McIntyre in token of the Mayor and Council’s respect and high regard for the contribution of the City’s Public Works employees to the continued success of Kansas City.
