RESOLUTION NO. 010697
In memory of Charles
Gordon Greene who passed away April 29, 2001.
WHEREAS, the
Mayor and Council are saddened by the death on April 29, 2001, of Charles
Gordon Greene, principal of Hickman Mills High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr.
Greene, known to friends and family as Chuck, was devoted to education and
young people and spent his life teaching and administering, first in North
Kansas City, Bolivar and Kansas City, Kansas schools before coming to the
Hickman Mills C-1 District, where he worked for twenty years; and
WHEREAS, as
principal of Hickman Mills High School for almost a decade, Chuck was
responsible for innovative programs that won him the well-earned attention of
teachers, students and parents. Chucks expertise in education was obvious,
and was second only to his care and concern for those around him; and
WHEREAS, Chuck
Greenes most meaningful lessons were communicated to others through his
ability to persevere in the light of great physical difficulty. He met his
challenges with a special spirit and aplomb, and in so doing was the model of
courage and goodness; and
WHEREAS, it is
with sadness that we honor Mr. Greene today, after his untimely death, but
honor him we do. His was a life dedicated to education and to young people and
he will be forever remembered for his contributions to the people and schools
he so ably served; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby express their profound sorrow on the death of Charles Gordon
Greene; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the family in token of
the genuine esteem and respect in which Charles Gordon Greene was held, and in
token of the deep and sincere sympathy hereby extended to the bereaved family.
