RESOLUTION NO. 070038

 

Congratulating the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and the Parking Control Section for their success in eliminating abandoned vehicles.

 

WHEREAS, The Kansas City Police Department, the Parking Control Section and the Kansas City Tow Lot pulled together with various neighborhood associations and community organizations to remove abandoned vehicles from the Citys streets; and

 

WHEREAS, the project became known as the East Patrol Tow Sweeps and was carried on from December 9, 2005 through June 16, 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, during this time, 4,781 parking tickets were issued, 1,189 vehicles were marked for abandonment and 357 vehicles were actually towed with citizens given the opportunity to move the vehicles from the Citys right-of-way prior to towing; and

 

WHEREAS, the areas included Benton to Chouteau, 12th Street to Gladstone, Ivanhoe Plaza District, Jackson to Topping/23rd Street to Linwood, Renaissance District, Old Northeast Area, Independence Plaza, 47th Street, north and south to 39th Street, Indiana to I/70/St. John to 23rd Street, Benton Boulevard to Paseo, Jackson to Benton Boulevard, 2nd to 3rd Street on Main, 31st to 43rd Street, Downtown Airport, Linwood Boulevard to 27th Street, Palatine Neighborhood, Indiana to Paseo, Santa Fe Neighborhood and Hill Top/Sycamore Neighborhood; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the Parking Control Section for their success in eliminating abandoned vehicles; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Parking Control Section with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for their efforts in cleaning up the community and making it a better place to live.
