RESOLUTION NO. 041423

 

Acknowledging the African Heritage Festival and supporting the efforts of the African Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City to expand business and cultural connections between the Heart of America and the continent of Africa.

WHEREAS, the African Heritage Festival, sponsored by the African Chamber of Commerce, will be held Friday, December 17, 2004 and Saturday, December 18, 2004, at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center in Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, this event will include a fashion show, a live radio broadcast, choirs from area churches and dancers; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to the entertainment, the event will include cultural exhibits, tourism information, free health screenings, childrens activities; womens economic and social issues, genealogy workshops and educational seminars; and

 

WHEREAS, representatives of political, business and social organizations have been invited to this event, as well as members of the academic community; and

 

WHEREAS; the African Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City was established by Reverend John Akin to promote commerce and tourism with several countries in Africa, and to encourage greater understanding of the people and culture of Africa; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby acknowledge the African Heritage Festival and support the efforts of the African Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City to expand business and cultural connections between the Heart of America and the continent of Africa; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Reverend John Akin, President and founder of the African Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City.
