SECOND COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR RESOLUTION NO. 180801

 

Recognizing the City’s commitment to assist the Child Protection Center and Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault’s co-location project at 4400 E. Blue Parkway and giving the City Manager directives that accompany such a commitment.

 

WHEREAS, the Child Protection Center (CPC) and Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) are partnering to co-locate at a multi-tenant nonprofit facility, to be owned by a nonprofit controlled by CPC and MOCSA, and which would also lease space to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office, the KC Police Department, and other support service tenants for office use; and

 

WHEREAS, the CPC and MOCSA group has expressed interest in the building located at 4400 Blue Parkway which is owned and listed for sale by HR Block and is currently being leased by the City pursuant to a long-term lease; and

 

WHEREAS, the CPC and MOCSA group is partnering with several prominent local funders that have given their support for acquisition and rehabilitation of the project; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council desires that the City Manager make a commitment to work with the CPC and MOCSA group on a co-location facility located at 4400 Blue Parkway; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council desires that the City Manager make a commitment to assist the CPC and MOCSA group with the negotiation of the purchase of the 4400 E. Blue Parkway building and working with the CPC and MOCSA group to negotiate the termination of the long-term lease that corresponds with the acquisition of the 4400 E. Blue Parkway building by the CPC and MOCSA group; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY: 

 

Section 1. That the City of Kansas City is committed to assist the Child Protection Center and Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault’s co-location project. 

 

Section 2.  That the City Manager is directed to negotiate with the CPC and MOCSA group and report back to the City Council the results of said negotiations, with a plan for any agreements and steps to be undertaken for acquisition and rehabilitation of the property located at 4400 E. Blue Parkway, it being understood that this does not indicate support for any monetary contribution for the project.
