RESOLUTION NO. 950506

Welcoming a group of exchange students from Poitiers, France, to the United States and Kansas City.

WHEREAS, during the month of April, 1995, a group of sixteen French exchange students from the Lycee Alienor Dd'Aquitaine in Poitiers, France, are visiting in the Kansas City area; and

WHEREAS, these students are staying with families in the Platte County R-III School District which serves Platte City and the northwest portion of Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, accompanying the students from France are their teachers Madame Any Bordes and Madame Arminda Da Costa, and serving as their local guide and chaperone is Madame Gay Stuart, French language instructor at Platte County R-III High School; and

WHEREAS, these visiting students, Angelique Arrayago, Francois Arruabarrena, Elsa Bottex, Christelle Brillouet, Cecile Chabanne, Valerie Couturier, Anne Durepaire, Stephanie Faucon, Carole Fouillet, Delphine Gaudin, Melanie Giraud, Emmanuel Jolimay, Stephanie Largeau, Samantha Rusiewiez, Arnaud Seguin and Jenny Thouvenin have only a brief period of time in which to sample the lifestyle and hospitality of the citizens of this city and country and to view its many natural and manmade wonders; and

WHEREAS, their visit serves as a reminder of the longstanding friendly ties of the citizens of the United States of America, the "melting pot" nation, to France and all the European nations and illustrates again how all people who share this Planet Earth are truly brothers and sisters with a common wish to live together in peace; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council welcome to the United States of America and to Kansas City, Missouri, the group of touring exchange students from Poitiers, France, and their traveling companions and teachers Any Bordes and Arminda Da Costa; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council hereby declare each and every one of these visitors to be honorary citizens of Kansas City, Missouri; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council and that copies hereof be given to each of them and to their local host teacher Madame Gay Stuart in token of the respect and esteem in which they are held in the hearts and minds of the Mayor and Council for this seemingly small step they have taken on behalf of all American and French citizens on the road which leads towards assuring world peace.
