RESOLUTION NO. 160744

 

Congratulating People to People International on their 60th Anniversary.

 

WHEREAS, People to People International is a cultural and educational exchange organization, dedicated to advancing international understanding and friendship through exchange of ideas and experiences directly among people of different cultures and countries; and

 

WHEREAS, People to People was launched by President Dwight D Eisenhower in 1956  and privatized when it moved to Kansas City in 1961, where   its international headquarters remains today; and

 

WHEREAS, early leaders working with President Eisenhower were J.C. Hall, founder of Hallmark Cards, Walt Disney, Bob Hope and so many other remarkable individuals from industry, academia and the arts; and

 

WHEREAS, with a presence in more than 160 countries, PTPI participation knows no boundaries as members and friends work together to foster cross-cultural understanding in order to be an active force in creating and sustaining a more peaceful world; and

 

WHEREAS, People to People International will be celebrating their 60th Anniversary on Saturday, October 1st at an event with featured performer Tony Orlando; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate People to People International on their 60th Anniversary; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mary Jean Eisenhower, Troy Nash, Steve DiGiacinto and Mike Rubin with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for their many years of dedication in creating a more peaceful world.
