Honoring John W. Laney on his retirement from the Hall Family Foundation.


WHEREAS, after more than 15 years, John W. Laney is retiring as Vice-President from the Hall Family Foundation in Kansas City; and


WHEREAS, John Laney began his public service career in Fairborn, Ohio as an Assistant City Manager, became a City Manager of Miamisburg, Ohio in 1969 and City Manager of Kettering, Ohio in 1976; and


WHEREAS, in 1979, John Laney joined the City of Kansas City, Missouri as an Assistant City Manager and Director of City Development until moving to the Hall Family Foundation in 1989; and


WHEREAS, John Laney is involved in many community organizations which include being co-chair of the SkillsUSA-VICA, Kansas City Advisory Council, past chairman and member of the board of the Research Institute of Kansas University Medical Center, immediate past chair of the board of John Knox Village, a director of the Minority Business Capital Corporation and of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, chairman of the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, immediate past chairman of the Downtown Council, a trustee of the Mid-Continent Library system; serves on the Chamber Board and executive committee, is a member of the Greater Downtown Development Authority, past president of the Ohio City Management Association and the KUCIMATS, a Kansas University Public Administration alumni group and remains active in the International Kansas City Management Associations; and


WHEREAS in 2002, John Laney was the first recipient of the Jake Mascotte Champion of Community Development award for his work with the Kansas City Community Development Initiative and in 2003 was named Trustee of the Year by the Missouri Association of Homes for the Aging; NOW, THEREFORE,




That the Mayor and Council hereby honor John W. Laney on his retirement from the Hall Family Foundation; and


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to John W. Laney in token of the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for his many hours of voluntary contribution to the community and wishing him a very happy retirement.
