RESOLUTION NO. 010086

Recognizing and congratulating Maxine Virginia Campbell Byrd, owner of Maxines Fine Foods.

WHEREAS, Maxine Virginia Campbell Byrd opened Maxines Fine Foods, a female, Black-owned, neighborhood soul food restaurant in 1961 and has been the only caf located on Benton Boulevard; and

WHEREAS, Maxines specialty is breakfast, generous portions, cooked to order and piled on serving platters with background sounds of jazz, blues or rock n roll tunes mixed with soft conversations, loud greetings and exaggerated anecdotes; and

WHEREAS, no one leaves hungry and everyone feels welcome and the generations keep coming. The walls are covered with photos of Maxines customers, internationally known professional athletes, musicians, authors, chefs, Girl Scouts, teachers, professors, students and more who have dined at Maxines Find Food. It is a great place to eat; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate and thank Maxine Virginia Campbell Byrd, owner of Maxines Fine Foods the only caf located on Benton Boulevard; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Maxine Virginia Campbell Byrd in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for providing a great place to eat soul food in Kansas City.
