RESOLUTION NO. 100160

 

Accepting a 2009 Gold Well Workplace Award from the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) and honoring the Human Resources Department and Fountain of Health staff for their efforts in developing a best of class wellness program for City employees.

 

WHEREAS, on January 24, 2002, the City Council formally recognized the importance of fostering a healthy workforce and adopted Resolution No. 020037 establishing the Kansas City Health and Productivity Management Initiative; and

 

WHEREAS, in response to Resolution No. 020037 the Human Resources Department coordinated, with input from a multitude of constituencies, the development and implementation of the Fountain of Health Wellness Program; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2005, the Fountain of Health Program was the recipient of a Corporate Health and Productivity Management Award from the Institute for Health and Productivity Management; and

 

WHEREAS, since inception, the Fountain of Health Wellness Program has continued to consistently grow and improve; and

 

WHEREAS, improvements realized in the overall health of City employees attributable to the Fountain of Health Wellness Program have produced both considerable savings in City health insurance costs and increases in productivity that have accrued to the benefit of all citizens of Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, in recognition of these efforts WELCOA has bestowed upon the City the prestigious 2009 Gold Well Workplace Award, with the City being the only Missouri municipality so recognized; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby accept the WELCOA 2009 Gold Well Workplace Award and honor the City, Department of Human Resources, its employees and Fountain of Health staff for their commitment and accomplishments; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Senior Human Resources Specialist JoAnn Bowman, Director of Human Resources Gary O’Bannon, Wellness Coordinator Katy Lovill and the City’s Wellness Ambassadors.
