RESOLUTION NO. 080830

 

Supporting A Call to Oneness to promote cooperation, collaboration and commitment among African-American men in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area for the betterment of the community.

 

WHEREAS, the mission of A Call to Oneness is to reclaim and foster in African-American men, and through them the world, an understanding of the sacredness of life and the importance of cooperation and respect for a sustainable future; and

 

WHEREAS, the first objective of A Call to Oneness is to call African-American men together for a weekend of discussion, reflection, prayer, and recommitment in order that they may be reconciled to one another, to God, and to their wives, mothers, and sisters who continue to love and support them; and

 

WHEREAS, the second objective of A Call to Oneness is to develop sustainable programs in primary, secondary and adult education that focus on exploring and solving the social, political, and moral issues that confront the community, and that provide education and training in financial empowerment; and

 

WHEREAS, the third objective of A Call to Oneness is to assert the moral and guidance of the Black religious experience in support of public education; and

WHEREAS, the fourth objective of A Call to Oneness is to compliment the work of civil rights organizations such as the NAACP, the Urban League, the 100 Black Men and others that have served as a beacon for the community; and

 

WHEREAS, the final objective of A Call to Oneness is to model cooperation and partnership in such a way that elected officials may, through their example, find ways to strengthen the Greater Kansas City area; and

WHEREAS, on September 14, 2008, after worship, A Call to Oneness will join and march through the City starting at 39th and Prospect and ending at Central Park with the theme of revitalizing the community, strengthening the family unit and becoming one with God; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby support A Call to Oneness to promote cooperation, collaboration and commitment among African-American men in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area for the betterment of the community; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Pastor Ronald R. Lindsay, Pastor Darren Edwards and Pastor Tony Cobbins with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City.
