RESOLUTION NO. 100252

 

Declaring March as National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

 

WHEREAS, the month of March, 2010 has been designated as “National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month” in order to celebrate and recognize people with disabilities; and

 

WHEREAS, disability is a natural part of the human experience and in no way diminishes the rights of people with disabilities to make choices, contribute to society, and experience in full the many blessings of American society; and

 

WHEREAS, family members, friends, and the community at large all play a role in supporting people with disabilities as they pursue their dreams; and

 

WHEREAS, the goals of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, properly include helping people with disabilities realize full access to housing, employment, and recreational activities which help create productive and satisfying lives; and to live as independently as possible; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare March as National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities and People First of Kansas City with the Mayor and Council calling upon the citizens of Kansas City to observe the month with appropriate programs and activities and encouraging all citizens of Kansas City, Missouri to seek information from organizations with expertise in matters concerning disabilities.
