RESOLUTION NO. 120601

Directing the City Manager to inventory billboards in the City and begin enforcement action; seek out assistance of citizens and neighborhoods groups; and report back to the Council on these efforts within 90 days.

WHEREAS, many billboards throughout Kansas City are no longer actively leased and have deteriorated; and

WHEREAS, such billboards blight our neighborhoods and commercial areas; and

WHEREAS, the City does not currently have an adequate inventory of these billboards and their condition; and

WHEREAS, because of staffing reductions, the City has very limited staff available for enforcement of zoning restrictions; and

WHEREAS, the City’s citizens and neighborhoods organizations may have the interest and availability to aid the City in its enforcement efforts; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the City Manager is directed (to the extent possible with the City’s limited enforcement staff) to inventory the billboards in the City and the condition of those billboards, begin enforcement action as appropriate, and report back to the Council on these efforts within 90 days.

Section 2. That the City Manager is directed to seek out the assistance of interested citizens and neighborhood groups in this effort.
