RESOLUTION NO. 100174
Expressing
support for the City Manager’s efforts to encourage Google to set up a high
speed network in Kansas City.
WHEREAS, Google
is a company founded in 1998 with a stated mission to organize the world’s
information and make it universally accessible and useful; and
WHEREAS, Google
is planning to launch an experimental program to make access to the internet
better and faster through an ultra high-speed broadband network that will
deliver internet speeds more than 100 times faster than to what most Americans
currently have access; and
WHEREAS, Google
is seeking interested applications from municipalities to provide them with
information to assist Google in determining where to build its test networks;
and
WHEREAS, Kansas
City recognizes the advantages to its citizens and businesses of an ultra
high-speed internet network; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Council
hereby expresses its support in the City Manager’s efforts to encourage Google
to set up a high speed network in Kansas City.
