RESOLUTION NO. 011372
Expressing profound
sympathy for the victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York City,
Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, the
Mayor and Council of Kansas City, Missouri, offer sympathy and support to the
families and friends of all victims; and
WHEREAS, on the
morning of September 11, 2001, four commercial airliners were hijacked and used
in horrific attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon; and
WHEREAS, this
assault on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and the plane crash in
Pennsylvania, have brought great suffering and sorrow to the people of the
United States of America; and
WHEREAS, in the
aftermath of these tragedies, Americans have shown great strength, heroism,
valor and compassion. Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical
personnel and many others rushed into the peril, and are now numbered among the
fallen; and
WHEREAS, we
acknowledge the great loss, a loss exemplifying the very best of America. The
victims of this attack were young and old, male and femaleall religions and
races, all categories of people from all over the world are counted among the
dead; and
WHEREAS, we
mourn for those innocent lives, lost forever to the madness and evil of others.
In our sorrow, we ask for Gods grace and we pledge our support to the
survivors, to the City of New York, and to the United States of America; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the people
of Kansas City, Missouri, and its leaders offer deep sympathy for the enormous
loss of life experienced in the events of September 11, 2001; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copies hereof be sent to Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
with the deepest sympathy of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for
the tragic losses that have been sustained by the people in the United States.
