Honoring
Louie “Scooter” Martin for his 50 years of service to the Kansas City, Missouri
Fire Department.
WHEREAS, Louie
“Scooter” Martin joined the Fire Department on July 18, 1960, at the age of 22;
and
WHEREAS, Scooter,
as he is more affectionately known to his fellow firefighters, is celebrating
50 years of service to the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Scooter
has worked his way through the ranks as a firefighter, fire apparatus operator
and Captain and has spent his whole career in the Midtown/Westport area; and
WHEREAS, Scooter
is now a Captain, a District Safety Officer and drives Battalion Chief 106 on
C-Shift located at 43rd and Bridger Road; and
WHEREAS, Captain
Martin is a valuable asset to the department and all of the firefighters that
he works with and needless to say, many changes have occurred during his 50
years of service and he has shown the ability to adapt and learn, to continue
to grow and be a major influence and a great example to the members around him;
and
WHEREAS, Captain
Martin was a founding member of the KCFD Honor Guard and has been recognized
through the years for awards in Bravery as well as receiving commendations for
unit citations and most recently was honored as a Grand Marshall in the 2009
St. Patrick’s Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, Captain
Martin has for the past 50 years been a loyal and continuous member of Local
42, IAFF; and
WHEREAS, Captain
Martin continues to show all of the energy and enthusiasm with the best of
them. He is just another example of why KCFD is a forerunner among fire
departments; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby honor Louie “Scooter” Martin for his 50 years of service to
the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Louie “Scooter” Martin
with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for his dedication and service
to the Fire Department and the community.
