Congratulating Posty Cards on achieving a LEED Platinum Status from the U.S. Green Building Council.

WHEREAS, Posty Cards, Inc., a leading manufacturer of business-to-business greeting cards has received its official Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council; and

WHEREAS, Posty Cards is believed to be one of only seven manufacturing plants in the United States to earn LEED Platinum certification, the highest distinction available to green buildings; and

WHEREAS, Posty Cards’ expansion and renovation in the heart of Kansas City’s urban core has doubled its space and nearly doubled its energy efficiency and dramatically reduced its carbon footprint per square foot; and

WHEREAS, the building now contains a number of sustainable features including a large solar photovoltaic panel that generates more than 11 percent of total power used, solar-heated water, high-efficiency variable refrigerant volume HVAC, active lighting controls, rain water reclamation for irrigation and flushing toilets, bio-retention and underground basins for managing storm water runoff and native plant landscaping; and

WHEREAS, Posty Cards is a third-generation, family owned company that designs, manufactures and sells business-to-business greeting cards for all occasions plus calendars and has a philosophy of minimizing its impact on the environment; and

WHEREAS, all cards are printed with soy ink and many are printed on recycled or Forest Stewardship Council certified paper with the packaging being recycled, recyclable and biodegradable materials; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Posty Cards on achieving a LEED Platinum Status from the U.S. Green Building Council; and
