RESOLUTION NO. 001390
Declaring October, 2000,
as Registered National Apprenticeship Month 2000 in Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, America,
the State of Missouri, and the City of Kansas City, as an integral part thereof,
must keep apace with the ever advancing and changing industrial technological,
and professional services that are essential in maintaining world leadership in
the betterment of life of all people; and
WHEREAS, the
challenges presented by growing scientific and technological advances,
accompanied by growing demands upon limited natural resources require a
concomitant growth in the versatility and competence of our Citys skilled
professionals and craftworkers; and
WHEREAS, the
Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training of the United States Department of Labor
seeks to help establish apprenticeship programs for businesses, educational
institutions and government that create high-quality programs which will insure
career development opportunities for employees; and
WHEREAS, the
Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training is committed to equal opportunities for
all qualified individuals to acquire needed skills without regard to race,
creed, sex, age, ethnic origin, or physical handicaps, thus increasing the
employment opportunities, earning abilities, and economic security of the
individual worker; and
WHEREAS, the
development of this Citys skilled professionals and craftworkers is vitally
important to the continued economic growth of our city, our state and our
nation; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby declare October, 2000, as Registered National Apprenticeship
Month 2000 in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Sarah Clemmons Russell
with the urging of the Mayor and Council for all city businesses which are not
now training apprentices to take appropriate steps to assure development of
skilled workers in our community and those which are now training apprentices
to strengthen and expand their programs.
