RESOLUTION NO. 051230
Congratulating
the Human Resources Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri on
receiving the Corporate Health and Productivity Management Award.
WHEREAS, later this month, the Human Resources
Department, represented by Susan Giffee, Manager of the Benefits Office, will
accept the Corporate Health and Productivity Management Award which makes
Kansas City the first public sector agency to receive this award; and
WHEREAS, the Institute for Health and Productivity
Management will give the annual award to the department because it has
demonstrated how a public sector employer can design and implement a health and
productivity management strategy. This work was done largely through the
Citys Fountain of Health Wellness Program, which will be featured in the
January 2006 issue of Health and Productivity Management; and
WHEREAS,
the department started the wellness program in January 2002 to promote healthy
lifestyles for City employees. The three goals of the wellness program are to
have employees be healthy in mind, body and spirit; help employees balance work
and personal life; and control the rising cost of medical benefits for the
City; and
WHEREAS, Blue Cross and Blue
Shield of Kansas City, the Citys health insurance carrier, provides funding
and other support for this program with the City working with a wellness
coordinator from St. Lukes Hospital to help ensure confidentiality in this
voluntary program; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby congratulate the Human Resources Department of the City of
Kansas City, Missouri on receiving the Corporate Health and Productivity
Management Award; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Gary OBannon and
Susan Giffee with the respect of the Mayor and Council for the initiative of
the Human Resources Department to promote healthy lifestyles for City
employees.
