Congratulating the Human Resources Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri on receiving the Corporate Health and Productivity Management Award.

WHEREAS, later this month, the Human Resources Department, represented by Susan Giffee, Manager of the Benefits Office, will accept the Corporate Health and Productivity Management Award which makes Kansas City the first public sector agency to receive this award; and

WHEREAS, the Institute for Health and Productivity Management will give the annual award to the department because it has demonstrated how a public sector employer can design and implement a health and productivity management strategy. WHEREAS, the department started the wellness program in January 2002 to promote healthy lifestyles for City employees. The three goals of the wellness program are to have employees be healthy in mind, body and spirit; help employees balance work and personal life; and control the rising cost of medical benefits for the City; and

WHEREAS, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, the Citys health insurance carrier, provides funding and other support for this program with the City working with a wellness coordinator from St. Lukes Hospital to help ensure confidentiality in this voluntary program; NOW, THEREFORE,
