RESOLUTION NO. 120576

 

Congratulating Ironworkers’ Local 10 in ranking in the top 10 in the National Apprenticeship Contest.

 

WHEREAS, Local 10 was chartered in 1901 and has been in existence for 111 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Local 10 is located at 10th and Harrison in Kansas City and has a training center that houses nine different crafts; and

 

WHEREAS, the apprenticeship program is a three year program that includes 612 school hours and 4800 hours worked on the job; and

 

WHEREAS, the competition will host 14 competitors from 5 states and Local 10 (Kansas City) has consistently placed first and second in the district competition and for the past eight years has finished in the top 10 at Nationals; and

 

WHEREAS, this year, Mike Johnson will represent Local 10 in September in Indianapolis and will be competing with approximately 75 people from around the United States and Canada; and

 

WHEREAS, Local 10 has participated in most of the Kansas City icons including Bartle Hall and its expansion, Kemper Arena, Arrowhead Stadium, Kauffman Stadium, the Sprint Center, the Performing Arts Building and the Kit Bond Bridge; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Ironworkers’ Local 10 in ranking in the top 10 in the National Apprenticeship Contest; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mike Johnson and Gerald Bryce with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the many contributions made to Kansas City and wishing Local 10 success in the upcoming Nationals.
