RESOLUTION NO. 190441

 

Recognizing the Municipal Mental Health Court and declaring May 2019 as Mental Health Month in Kansas City, Missouri.

 

WHEREAS, May is Mental Health Month was started 70 years ago in 1949 by Mental Health America and the theme for 2019 is 4Mind4Body; and

 

WHEREAS, mental health is essential to everyone’s overall health and well-being; and

 

WHEREAS, all Americans experience times of difficulty and stress in their lives; and

 

WHEREAS, prevention is an effective way to reduce the burden of mental health conditions; and

 

WHEREAS, mental health conditions are real and prevalent in our nation; and

 

WHEREAS, with effective treatment, those individuals with mental health and other chronic health conditions can recover and lead full, productive lives; and

 

WHEREAS, Municipal Mental Health Court has operated since 2002 for the purpose of referring and monitoring appropriate therapeutic interventions for defendants who have severe and persistent mental health illnesses; and

 

WHEREAS, each business, school, government agency, healthcare provider, organization and citizen shares the burden of mental health problems and has a responsibility to promote mental wellness and support prevention efforts; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare May 2019 as National Mental Health Month in Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Municipal Mental Health Court Judge Ardie A. Bland with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the significant contributions Mental Health Court has made toward reducing crime and recidivism while saving limited public resources.
