Directing the City Manager to send a letter to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources that commits the City to take certain actions within the next six months.

WHEREAS, in the work plan approved by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and accepted by the Environmental Protection Agency, the City was to submit its Overflow Control Plan in July, 2008; and

WHEREAS, since the work plan was approved in 2006, the interest in and use of green solutions has greatly increased and green solutions now are seen as technology to use in concert with gray technology; and

WHEREAS, the City desires to become a leader in green solutions and plans for its Overflow Control Plan to be used as the model green long-term control plan in the nation; and

WHEREAS, in order to accomplish these goals, the City needs an additional six months to review and increase the use of cost effective green solutions; and

WHEREAS, the MDNR and EPA are amenable to allowing an additional six months subject to the Citys commitment to undertake certain actions during the six month extension period; and

WHEREAS, the letter attached as Exhibit A contains the actions the City is committing to undertake in the next six months; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
