RESOLUTION NO. 910400

 

Honoring Alvin L. Brooks for his twenty-three years of service to the City of Kansas City.

WHEREAS, in May 1968, Alvin L. Brooks first began his service to the City as the first appointed Director of the Human Relations Department; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1973, Mr. Brooks continued his excellent service to the City as an Assistant City Manager and in 1980, he reassumed his duties as the Director of the Human Relations Department; and

 

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Human Relations Department, Mr. Brooks has worked tirelessly to bring the City's civil rights ordinance into compliance with state and federal laws and has initiated several valuable programs, including the Minority and Women's Business Enterprise Program; and

 

WHEREAS, Alvin Brooks has, in the past, demonstrated his concern for the youth of Kansas City by first working in the Kansas City School District and later, working in the Juvenile Unit of the Kansas City Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, his work and dedication to the City of Kansas City has been recognized in the receipt of over 14 different awards from various civic and community organizations; and

 

WHEREAS, Alvin Brooks is the founder of the Kansas City Ad Hoc Group Against Crime and he has received national recognition for his crime-fighting efforts by his appointment by President Bush in November 1989, to the President's Drug Advisory Council; and

 

WHEREAS, Alvin Brooks is retiring after twenty-three years of service to the City on April 5, 1991; and

 

WHEREAS, all Kansas Citians have benefitted from Mr. Brooks' dedication and hard work for the City; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council of Kansas City honor and commend

 

ALVIN L. BROOKS

 

for his twenty-three years of dedicated service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and the Mayor and Council further wish him well in his future endeavors during retirement; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony hereof and that a copy be presented to him.
