ORDINANCE NO. 180537

 

Authorizing the Director of General Services to execute a continuation of an existing lease for a further five-year period with two five-year options for renewal with Turn the Page KC, Inc., to continue its operations focused on a City-wide program to achieve children attaining grade-level reading proficiency by the third grade, which lease is for the existing structure at 900 E. 24th Terrace on the Health Department Campus, and to recognize the collaboration with Charlie’s House, Inc.

 

WHEREAS, Turn the Page KC, Inc., a Missouri nonprofit corporation, formed in 2012 (“TTPKC”) currently occupies premises in the existing structure formerly assigned an address of 2401 Campbell Street, which is now known as 900 E. 24th Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri 64108 (“TTPKC Lease Premises”) and TTPKC provides young children and their parents with a collaborative space and the resources necessary for children to receive the best possible early childhood learning experiences; and

 

WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 180414, passed June 7, 2018, General Services is authorized to conclude negotiations and execute an Amended and Restated Ground Lease with Charlie’s House, Inc., a Kansas nonprofit corporation, formed in 2007 which registered in 2016 with the Missouri Secretary of State as a foreign corporation authorized to transact business in the State of Missouri (“Charlie’s House”) that contemplates among other things the construction of a demonstration house to keep the community informed and engaged when it comes to preventing injuries to children in and around the home which is in the best interests of the City; and

 

WHEREAS, the demonstration house to be constructed by Charlie’s House will be on property leased from the City north of and separated from the TTPKC Lease Premises; and

 

WHEREAS, Charlie’s House and TTPKC desire to collaborate on their respective programming efforts and to share certain space, but acknowledge that within TTPKC Lease Premises, being the existing structure at 900 E. 24th Terrace, TTPKC will be the primary tenant, and Charlie’s House may be permitted by TTPKC to collaboratively use a part of the TTPKC Lease Premises; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the Director of General Services Department is authorized to further negotiate and execute a lease agreement with Turn the Page KC, Inc., for the purpose including, but not limited to, the development, implementation and operation of a City-wide program to improve children’s attainment of grade-level reading proficiency by the third grade, and other activities to help achieve such purpose, beginning with the
effective date of this Ordinance and ending June 30, 2023 with two five-year options for renewal substantially in the form of Exhibit A attached hereto, with the final signed form of the Lease to be maintained on file with the Department of General Services.
