RESOLUTION NO. 010695

 

Honoring Dr. Manuel L. Dillingham on his Eighth Pastoral Anniversary at the Friendship Baptist Church.

 

WHEREAS, in November, 1914, Pastor G.W. Boyd and ten other members from Highland Avenue Baptist Church established a new congregation and first worshiped in the 1500 block of 12th Street then moved into a small storeroom on 12th and Paseo. On the second Sunday in June, 1915, the Reverend J.M. Booker, the moderator of the New Era District, officially named this gathering, Friendship Baptist Church; and

 

WHEREAS, in February, 1993, Dr. Manuel L. Dillingham was called to be the sixth pastor; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Dillingham was born in Black Mountain, North Carolina on April 16, 1951 and where at the age of twelve, he united with the Baptist faith; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Dillingham was called to preach in 1969 after graduating from the Livingston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, he attended Hood Theological Seminary and received a Masters Degree in Theology and in 1987, he received his Doctorate of Ministry degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Dillingham has become one of the Citys leading pastors through his aggressive work in the ministry within and outside the Church; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Dillingham has been honored as one of the Kansas City Globes 100 Most Influential African Americans in Greater Kansas City and is the former President of the Kansas City Clergy Coalition and presently serves as President of Western Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Dr. Manuel L. Dillingham on his Eighth Pastoral Anniversary at the Friendship Baptist Church; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. Manuel L. Dillingham with the congratulations of the Mayor and Council for his many contributions to the community.
