RESOLUTION NO. 950783

 

Congratulating the International Institute of Municipal Clerks on selecting Kansas City as the site for its 2001 Annual International Conference.

 

WHEREAS, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), is composed of county, city, village, borough, and town clerks from every state and Canadian Province, plus 15 other countries; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City, the heart of America, by 2001 will offer new attractions such as river boat gambling, a river walk, an expanded Zoo, an expanded Bartle Hall, the Jazz Hall of Fame, a new downtown hotel, and a revitalized 18th & Vine Area as well as professional sports events, unique Plaza shopping and dining, Crown Center special events and a host of fine attractions and events in every district in the City; and

 

WHEREAS, Denise DeJulio of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Kansas City, Mary Hutchinson, Sales Manager for the Hyatt Regency Crown Center, David Montgomery of the Westin Crown Center, and Catherine T. Rocha, City Clerk presented Kansas City's bid to host the IIMC Annual Conference for 2001; and

 

WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of IIMC met at their Annual Conference in Louisville and selected Kansas City, Missouri as the site for their 2001 Annual Conference; and

 

WHEREAS, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks is expected to draw 2,000 City Clerks from around the world to Kansas City during the third week of May, 2001; and

 

WHEREAS, Queen Bey, Kansas City National Jazz Ambassador has agreed to serve as Chair for Special Events and Mary Byrne, Kansas City's Legislative Lobbyist, has agreed to serve as Co-Chair of the Host Committee; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Denise DeJulio, David Montgomery, Mary Hutchinson, and Catherine T. Rocha for their successful bid and congratulate the International Institute of Municipal Clerks on selecting Kansas City as the site of its 2001 Annual Conference; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council and presented to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks as a sign of appreciation from Kansas City for the International Institute of Municipal Clerks to hold its International Conference in Kansas City.
