RESOLUTION NO. 100133

 

Honoring all barbers and beauticians that donated their time and labor to providing free haircuts and stylings to children attending George B. Longan French Magnet School in the Kansas City, Missouri School District.

 

WHEREAS, on Monday, December 21, 2009, barbers and beauticians from twelve barber shops and salons donated their time and labor to provide free haircuts and stylings for 150 school children who attend George B. Longan French Magnet School in the Kansas City, Missouri School District; and

 

WHEREAS, the idea originally started when Mr. Mahlon Davis, Sr. offered to donate free haircuts for two children at the school, but their families did not want the students to be singled out; and

 

WHEREAS, the barbers and beauticians were excited to be able to serve the children and give back to the community. The children were equally excited to receive new hairstyles right before the holidays; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to the time and labor donated by the barbers and beauticians, labor and materials were also donated by IBEW Local 124 and Capital Electric Company; and

 

WHEREAS, Rent-a-Center loaned a truck to transport the barber chairs and supplies donated by local beauty supply houses to the school and Blankinship Beauty and Barber, IMG Barber and Beauty Supply, Evelyn's Beauty Supply, and State Beauty Supply all donated the supplies used and Big Mama’s Bakery and Café donated food; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor all barbers and beauticians that donated their time and labor to providing free haircuts and stylings to children attending George B. Longan French Magnet School in the Kansas City, Missouri School District; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to the barbers, beauticians, and various businesses with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the service given to the community by all of them.
