RESOLUTION NO. 091051

 

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Christmas in October.

 

WHEREAS, this year Christmas in October celebrated its 25th year of serving Kansas City neighborhoods; and

 

WHEREAS, Christmas in October helps with repairing and updating the homes of economically disadvantaged residents including the elderly, disabled, veterans, or families with children; and

 

WHEREAS, Christmas in October is the largest program of its kind in the country; and

 

WHEREAS, Christmas in October was founded in 1984 by Kansas City attorney Richard Miller, and Co-Founder of Andrews McMeel Universal, John McMeel, to improve the living conditions of Kansas Citians that need it most; and

 

WHEREAS, 514 homes were repaired in 2009 with an estimated economic impact on neighborhoods of $2,400,000.00; and

 

WHEREAS, of the 514 homes repaired, 58 have new heaters, 47 have new hot water heaters, 86 received electrical repairs, 93 received plumbing repairs, 136 received guttering, 141 received roof repairs, 19 received wheelchair ramps, 138 received carpentry repairs, 231 received windows, 121 doors, 247 homes winterized, 28 received insulation, 161 homes were painted, and 61 had screens repaired; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby celebrate the 25th anniversary of Christmas in October; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Richard Miller and John McMeel with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the dedication and hard work they have shown the community over the past 25 years.
