RESOLUTION NO. 970982
Supporting the application to the U.S. Department of
Justice for the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant.
WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, as the
designated contract entity, desires to submit to the Bureau of Justice
Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice, for the Local Law Enforcement Block
Grant, under the Fiscal Year 1997 Omnibus Appropriations Act, by Friday, July
11, 1997; and
WHEREAS, the City has the opportunity to apply for
and receive noncompetitive Federal grant funds in the amount of $2,615,667.00
to support the City and community crime prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, the City applied for and received
$2,586,958.00 Federal grant funds from the Bureau of Justice Assistance
pursuant to which the City entered into the collaborative agreement with the
Kansas City Police Department, the Kansas City, Missouri School District and
the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office for local law enforcement initiatives;
and
WHEREAS, the new Local Law Enforcement Block Grant
application ties into the City's initiatives to prevent crime and create a
safer community related to children, enhanced security measures, public safety,
drug prevention programs, and other law enforcement measures; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council do acknowledge and
support this application submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice for Local
Law Enforcement Block Grant.
