RESOLUTION NO. 100452

 

Declaring the first week in June as "American Italian Heritage Week".

 

WHEREAS, an event hosted by Carl DiCapo at the World War I Museum on June 1 and the Festa Italiana 2010 held at Zona Rosa on June 4-6, are the events planned for American Italian Heritage Week; and

 

WHEREAS, the Festa Italiana is conducted by the Kansas City Chapter of UNICO National which was founded in 1931 by America businessmen of Italian ancestry as a way of giving back to communities across America; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Chapter of UNICO was chartered in 1949 and for more than 60 years has raised thousands of dollars annually to assist worthy charities, organizations, families and individuals in need; and

 

WHEREAS, UNICO annually presents the prestigious Brian Piccolo Award, an honor bestowed upon the area’s top student athlete and has also supported the Mid-America Games, Catholic Charities, Don Bosco, Bridge Builders and numerous food pantries; and

 

WHEREAS, UNICO has contributed to numerous organizations such as the Dream Factory, Boy Scouts of America, City of Hope, National Jewish Hospital, Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, Salvation Army, Avila College, Rockhurst University, St. Vincent Society, United Cerebral Palsy, Shepherd Center, college libraries, and Missouri/Kansas Fleet Reserve; and

 

WHEREAS, Festa Italiana provides the ideal environment to experience authentic Italian food, beverages, music and live entertainment in a festive family atmosphere; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare the first week in June as "American Italian Heritage Week"; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Carl DiCapo in appreciation by the Mayor, Council and citizens of the City of Kansas City, Missouri for the many contributions that have been made to the community.
