RESOLUTION NO. 080591

 

Declaring June 8-14, 2008, as Foreclosure Prevention Awareness Week in Kansas City, Missouri

 

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City acknowledges that keeping families in their homes keeps neighborhoods stable; and

 

WHEREAS, foreclosure affects more than just one individual or family; it affects a whole neighborhood; and

 

WHEREAS, foreclosures have risen over 80 percent in the last year in the Kansas City area with almost half of all the subprime loans in the area still due to reset indicating continued difficult times for homeowners in the area; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, is committed to helping hard-working Kansas Citians prevent the loss of their home; and

 

WHEREAS, the Greater Kansas City Foreclosure Task Force is committed to understanding the issues surrounding the foreclosure of homes; and

 

WHEREAS, there will be a free foreclosure counseling clinic on June 12, 2008, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to provide assistance to families struggling to maintain homeownership; and

 

WHEREAS, there are organizations available in the Kansas City area to provide families with questions to answers that they may have in regards to making their home mortgage payments; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare June 8-14, 2008, as Foreclosure Prevention Awareness Week in Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Greater Kansas City Foreclosure Task Force with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the service being offered to homeowners in order to help prevent more foreclosures in the metropolitan area.
