RESOLUTION NO. 920488

 

Honoring and commending the Piano Technicians Guild, Inc., an international organization of Registered Piano Technicians, on the occasion of the ribbon cutting for their new permanent home office building at 3930 Washington in Kansas City, Missouri.

 

WHEREAS, the Piano Technicians Guild, Inc., an international non-profit organization of Registered Piano Technicians, will hold a ribbon cutting for their new permanent home office building located at 3930 Washington here in Kansas City, Missouri, at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 9, 1992; and

 

WHEREAS, the organization moved to Kansas City in 1983 from Seattle. Their new office, housing six full-time employees, will serve a worldwide membership of nearly 3,900 members; and

 

WHEREAS, the annual convention of the Guild will be held in Kansas City at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in 1994; and

 

WHEREAS, while predecessor organizations came into existence as early as 1893 at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, an organization known as the American Guild of Piano Tuners was founded in 1910. That Guild disbanded during the Great Depression, but a replacement known as the American Society of Piano Technicians was formed in 1941. A merger in 1957 created the present Guild which was formally confirmed by its members at its first annual convention in Washington, D.C. on July 10, 1958; and

 

WHEREAS, through its Piano Technicians Guild Foundation, continuing education scholarships to piano teachers and grants for technical research are provided. The Foundation also works to preserve resource materials in piano technology and publishes new works on the subject. The Guild and its predecessors have a long history of upholding the highest standards in the piano service profession while striving to meet the piano users' needs and best interests; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City is proud to be the home of the Piano Technicians Guild, Inc. and host to the Guilds's 1994 Convention; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby heartily honor and commend the Piano Technicians Guild, Inc. on the occasion of the ribbon cutting for their new permanent home office building at 3930 Washington here in Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to representatives of the Guild in token of the best wishes of the Mayor and Council for many prosperous and successful years in their new home office.
