RESOLUTION NO. 950737
Declaring the week of May 29, 1995, as "Kansas City
Blades Week" in Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Blades of the International
Hockey League have been in Kansas City for five years; and
WHEREAS, the Blades skated to victory in the Turner
Cup Championship in 1991-92, their second year in Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, this year the Blades have made it to the
finals, winning the Eastern Conference Playoff title in dramatic fashion by a
4-3 game victory; and
WHEREAS, the Blades are the biggest on-field sports
success story in Kansas City so far this year; and
WHEREAS, the Blades are the most successful
professional hockey franchise in Kansas City history, reaching the finals in
two of their first five years here; and
WHEREAS, almost 350,000 Kansas City fans have
attended Blades games this year; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council wish to express their
support for the Blades franchise and encourage all Kansas Citians to cheer the
home team on to victory in its quest for the Championship; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council honor the Blades for
their success in the regular season and the playoffs to date and, in
recognition thereof, declare the week of May 29, 1995, as "Kansas City
Blades Week" in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in token of the high regard in which the
Blades are held by the Council and copies presented to the Blades; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council
wish the Blades continued success in their pursuit of the Turner Cup and
encourage all Kansas Citians to attend the games to support this fine team.
