RESOLUTION NO. 000592

 

Approving the Kansas City International Airport Terminal Improvement 1% for Art Program and authorizing the Director of Aviation to proceed with implementation.

 

WHEREAS, the Council adopted Resolution No. 52393 on January 23, 1981, declaring their policy regarding expenditures for aesthetic adornment of buildings and public property; and

 

WHEREAS, that policy requires that provisions be made to include features of aesthetic ornamentation and adornment in designs, plans and specifications for construction, reconstruction or remodeling of any municipal building; and

 

WHEREAS, the Aviation Department, following the Councils policy has actively coordinated with the Public Art Administrator and the Municipal Art Commission to develop a plan for aesthetic adornment as a part of the Kansas City International Airport Terminal Improvement Program; and

 

WHEREAS, the Municipal Art Commission has approved projects and selected artists for use of $1,800,000.00 which represents the 1% of the engineers estimate of the terminal renovation project; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the Council hereby approves the following art projects for the Kansas City International Airport Terminal Improvement 1% for Art Program:

 

- Keith Sonnier - Design and fabricate a contemporary fountain

 

- Kristin Jones and Andrew Ginzel - Design and fabricate work for the terminal building terrazzo floors

 

- James Woodfill, Stretch Rumaner and Christian Mann - Design and fabricate light works for the interior of the three towers at the parking structure towers

 

- Michael Toombs - Design and fabricate community-based project for both permanently and temporary installed works of art

 

Section 2. That the Director of Aviation is hereby directed to proceed with implementation of this Kansas City International Airport Terminal Improvement 1% for Art Program.
