RESOLUTION NO. 060135

Honoring Linda Stewart on her retirement from the Center Board of Education.

WHEREAS, Linda Stewart was elected to the Center Board of Education in 1997 and is completing nine years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Linda Stewart served as vice-president from 1998-2002 and president from 2002-2006; and

WHEREAS, during Lindas tenure on the Board, she had many accomplishments which included hiring two superintendents who effectively brought the district focus on academic achievement and improved climate, full accreditation, an increase in graduation requirements, one levy increase, two bond issues which improved all school buildings, opened a nationally accredited Early Childhood Center, an effective alternative school, increased emphasis on character education and development and participation in a six-district Career Education consortium; and

WHEREAS, Linda has a lifetime history of PTA involvement as well as service on school district committees and community involvement through numerous community organizations; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Linda Stewart on her retirement from the Center Board of Education; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Linda Stewart in token of the Mayor and Councils respect and high regard and their best wishes for a long and happy retirement which she so richly deserves.
