RESOLUTION NO. 100696

 

Expressing support for a memorandum of understanding between the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Board of Police Commissioners of Kansas City, Missouri; urging the Board to support the memorandum; and authorizing the City Manager to execute the memorandum.

 

WHEREAS, on August 3, 2010, the Board of Police Commissioners of Kansas City, Missouri (“Board”) passed Resolution 10-05 expressing its desire for the City Council of Kansas City, Missouri to place renewal of the one quarter cent Public Safety Sales Tax on the November 2, 2010 ballot; and

WHEREAS, in a subsequent resolution, No. 10-06, the Board expressed its support for using a portion of the sales tax to hire forty additional police officers; and

WHEREAS, a memorandum of understanding has been drafted which would require the Board to hire forty additional police officers over the next two fiscal years, using a portion of the sales tax, and which would provide that an update to the 2000 police staffing analysis would be performed and if that update identified a need for more officers, that the City and Board would aggressively pursue further collaboration and consolidation efforts to fund an additional forty police officers; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the Mayor and Council express their support for the attached memorandum of understanding between the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Board of Police Commissioners of Kansas City, Missouri, and urge the Board to likewise support this memorandum

Section 2. That the City Manager is authorized to execute the memorandum of understanding.
