RESOLUTION NO. 180592

 

Celebrating Kansas City’s newest holiday “816 Day”.

WHEREAS, the KC Streetcar Authority, the City Market, KCWYA (“KC Where You At”) and the Downtown Neighborhood Association are joining forces to celebrate all things Kansas City on August 16th; and

 

WHEREAS, 816 Day was named after our local area code and will be a day-long celebration of all things KC; and

 

WHEREAS, you can visit where it all began in KC, the historic City Market where you can eat and party to help commemorate the day; and

 

WHEREAS, start celebrating 816 Day with a lunchtime ride on the KC streetcar where local artist and performer Michael McQuary will be performing and in the evening at the City Market, Thunder Jacket will be featured who is Kansas City’s premier 90’s band; and

 

WHEREAS, many businesses in the City Market and along the streetcar route will be having specials all day long including but not limited to The Bite, KC Soda Co., Hawthorne 109, Dutch Flowers, Tikka House, Emblazon Gifts, Locally Sourced Meats, HyperKC, Bloom Baking Company, The Ten Spot, Broadway Arcade, Broadway Bistro Hush Lounge, The Garment House and John’s Big Deck; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby celebrate Kansas City’s newest holiday “816 Day”; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Brian Benton, KCWYA, and 816 Day Planning Committee in token of the appreciation by the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for this outstanding celebration of the KC Streetcar Authority and the City Market.
