RESOLUTION NO. 980134

Expressing the opposition of the Mayor and Council to House Bill No. 1308 which would prohibit residency requirements for municipal peace officers.

 

WHEREAS, the Missouri House of Representatives is considering House Bill No. 1308 which would amend Chapter 71 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri to prohibit cities, towns and villages from requiring peace officers employed by a municipality to live within that municipality; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City currently requires its police officers to reside within the City and believes that requirement to be desirable, reasonable and proper; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their opposition to the provisions of House Bill No. 1308 now pending before the General Assembly and urge the Assembly members not to approve the measure; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copies hereof be provided the Speaker of the House and to the President of the Senate and to the Assembly members from the Kansas City area as evidence of the opposition of the Mayor and Council to the provisions of this proposed law.
