RESOLUTION NO. 120406

 

Declaring the week of April 22, 2012, as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

 

WHEREAS, April 22, 2012, begins National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, a time to honor crime victims and our nation’s progress in advancing their rights; and

 

WHEREAS, this year’s theme—Extending the Vision: Reaching Every Victim—celebrates the vision behind that progress and the ideal of serving all victims of crime; and

WHEREAS, the vision that launched the victims’ rights movement emerged more than 30 years ago; and

 

WHEREAS, since the 1980s, the nation has made dramatic progress in securing rights, protections, and services for victims of crime; and

 

WHEREAS, every state has enacted victims’ rights laws, and 32 states have constitutional victims’ rights amendments; and

 

WHEREAS, all states have victim compensation funds, and more than 10,000 victim service agencies have been established throughout the country; and

WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri, will observe National Crime Victims' Rights Week with a special event on Thursday, April 26, 2012; and

 

WHEREAS, the Adhoc Group Against Crime, FACE 2 FACE The Carleton Organization, Missouri Board of Probation and Parole, AIM 4 Peace and Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office will come together to embrace the national theme by collaborating with one-mind-set: "1Community 1Cause!"; NOW, THEREFORE;

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare the week of April 22, 2012, as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Adhoc Group Against Crime, FACE 2 FACE The Carleton Organization, Missouri Board of Probation and Parole, AIM 4 Peace and Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the many organizations fighting for the rights of victims.
